Why Investing In Your Joy Is The Biggest Flex
If the last year or so has taught us anything at all, it was how important it is to chase your joy.
Creating the life that we want is more than just reciting positive affirmations; it requires consistency, focus, and action.
The reality is, life won't get any easier; so we have to find ways to cultivate our joy and pleasure by looking for things that will make our experiences that much more meaningful, and enjoyable. That's why during the first couple of months of lockdown, folks were cooking/baking, online shopping, working out, having endless zoom meetings, Netflix and chillin', and making videos on Tik Tok; all to pursue that feeling of happiness and connection. We had reached our limits of boredom and fear of missing out (FOMO), and were actively seeking ways to fill in that void, and make our time indoors more satisfying.
Seemingly overnight, some of us became internet sensations, business owners, creatives, Amazon junkies, at-home chefs cookin' up amazing, healthy eats in our air fryers, and started trying new things and being introduced to hobbies we would have never picked up Pre-Rona.
Here's a glimpse of what I did to invest in my joy.
Became a plant mama.
I promise you at one point I had like ten houseplants. I've always enjoyed having fresh flowers, and greenery at the crib, but something about having to care for another living thing (outside of my children), and watching it grow up close and personal was fascinating to me. Not only do they create such a dope, tranquil vibe in your living space; plants also elevate your mood and improve the air quality.
If you're looking for a nice pick-me-up, I kindly suggest adding some houseplants to your space. Some fan favorites are succulents, pothos, and snake plants. You can buy some at your local grocery stores, Home Depot, plant nurseries, and even online: Bloomscape, and Grounded are my go-to spots.

Got a fur baby.
Let me tell you, I didn't grow up having any pets nor did I have the desire to have any. I'm a germophobe, not to mention I already have two whole kids so adding another level of responsibility just wasn't on my radar...until recently... Randomly one evening about three weeks ago or so, we were eating dinner and hubby had the bright idea about us adopting a puppy. To his surprise, I obliged, and we started doing research almost immediately. It just felt right. Not only has our little 8-week old fur baby been a great addition to our family, but Sage has managed to steal our hearts in a way I didn't think was possible. Being open-minded about extending our family by getting a dog, has brought so much love, emotional support, and joy to us in such a short amount of time. Not to mention, he is the perfect doggy-brother and playmate that my babies have always wanted.
Whether you're looking for companionship, an excuse to get more movement and motivation for a healthier lifestyle, or to fall in love all over again, owning a pet could be the way to go.
The Joy Summit.
